Bold Offense Unleashes

The Austin Bold FC (4-3-6) played only their second home match in the COVID era before 1244 fans to defeat the Sporting KC, 4-0.  The win was Austin’s first in five outings and KC’s fourth consecutive loss.  The Sporting KC (4-9-1) are now eliminated from playoff contention.

Austin played an aggressive and passionate game, albeit, with a little less finesse.  The Bold forcefully attacked KC in their end of the pitch, forcing nine corner kicks.  Austin received four offsides calls and was shown five yellow card.  The Bold outshot Shooting KC 19 to 6, scoring on all four shots-on-target.

The Sporting KC played a more traditional game, methodically moving the ball upfield.  They controlled the ball for 60% of the match and committed only one offsides.  They attempted 60% more passes than the Bold and completed nearly 80% of them.

Midfielder Xavier Baez opened the scoring for the Bold in 57th minute of play on a right footed shot from the center of the box to the bottom left corner of the goal.  Baez nearly tallied a second goal in the 61st minute when his corner kick deflected off of KC’s Jahon Rad for an own-goal.

Alasanne Ates Diouf added a third goal for the Bold in the 73rd minutes, just one minute after substituting in.  Diouf lodged a shot from point-blank range to the bottom left corner of the net.

And Aldo Quintanilla slipped the ball pass KC goalkeeper Remi Prieur in the third minute of extra time.  Quintanilla was assisted by Sean McFarlane.

The Bold next play at OKC Energy on Sunday and finish the season hosting San Antonio FC on October 4.  The USL Playoff monitor predicts the Bold have a 66% chance of advancing to post-season play.
